Yep, we are back on lockdown here in Toronto (and the rest of Ontario) ...
I heard a fabulous line the other day from a really smart author/doctor (whose name I'm forgetting but I'll go digging) ...
Accept the world on the terms it’s offering you right now.
For me, this line isn't saying to give up, or to be ok with the imbalance of power and abject unfairness happening daily ... I took it as a reminder to focus on the things I can control and to perhaps shift where my energy is being directed.
- What can I do to make this situation better for me and for those around me?
- Where can I help those that are impacted by this more than me?
- How can I make chicken salad and lemonade with the privilege I have been born into?
So we will zig and zag again and focus on the things we can control and work on while not letting the other things get too overwhelming or frustrating ...
My amazing team and I will keep us all safe and healthy as we fulfill your orders online, over the phone and via your window shopping.
I am definitely tired of this. I am for sure wondering when we will see a new normal that finds us inviting you inside the stores, hanging with our loved ones outside (and maybe inside), and feeling like we are turning a corner on all of this.
For now, however, I am going to do whatever I can to support my fellow small biz leaders by shopping locally, ordering takeout and thanking them for hanging on. I am going to regularly check in on my friends who are front line workers and health care warriors. I'm going to keep my family safe and healthy. I'm going to remind myself that it's ok to have a rough day every once in a while. And then I'll keep going.
Thanks for sticking with us through to the other side.
